Enugu, NIGERIA — Oyiba Michael Christian Ogbonna has officially been installed as the traditional ruler of Ishienu Amufu Nkerefi in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. He was conferred with the staff of office and certificate of recognition in a well-attended ceremony that underscored his new role as the Igwe of the community.

The ceremonial handover of the staff of office was presided over by the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Peter Mbah, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftancy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo. In his remarks, the Governor, through his representative, urged the newly installed Igwe to ensure the preservation of peace and unity within Amufu Nkerefi. He further assured the monarch of the state government support in fulfilling his duties as the traditional ruler.

Governor Mbah’s message emphasized the critical role traditional rulers play in maintaining social harmony and promoting development within their domains. He particularly tasked Igwe Ogbonna with the responsibility of fostering tranquility among the people, underlining that the state government would always stand by the monarch to facilitate the smooth governance of the community.

In his response, Igwe Michael Christian Ogbonna expressed deep gratitude to the state governor for the honour bestowed upon him. He also extended his thanks to the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftancy Affairs, Hon. Ogbodo, for his consistent efforts throughout the journey to his ascension to the throne.
