Anambra 2025: INEC Publishes Personal Details of Governorship Candidates

Abuja, NIGERIA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars of candidates vying for the November 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022. The disclosure follows the official conclusion of political party primaries and the timely submission of nomination forms by sixteen political parties.

In a statement released on Saturday, INEC confirmed that all sixteen parties met the submission deadline of 6:00pm on Monday, 12 May 2025, when the Commission’s dedicated portal automatically shut down.

As stipulated under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, and outlined as item 4 on the Commission’s official Timetable and Schedule of Activities, the particulars of each governorship candidate and their running mate have now been made public. These include Form EC9 and the accompanying academic credentials and supporting documents submitted by the candidates.

According to the Commission, the documents are currently on display at INEC’s Anambra State headquarters as well as at all 21 Local Government Area offices across the state. The move is aimed at promoting transparency, enabling public scrutiny, and providing a legal framework for accountability in the electoral process.

INEC urged the public, especially political stakeholders and members of the public, to carefully review the published documents.

“Any aspirant who participated in his or her party’s primaries and has reasonable grounds to believe that the information submitted by a nominated candidate is false may challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court,” said Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee. This is in line with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The publication of candidates’ particulars is a critical step in the lead-up to the 2025 governorship election in Anambra, a state known for its politically active electorate and competitive gubernatorial races.

INEC also reaffirmed that the final list of candidates will be published on Monday, 9 June 2025 — at least 150 days ahead of the election date — in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act. This publication is listed as item 7 on the electoral timetable.

The Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled for Saturday, 8 November 2025.

With the electoral process gaining momentum, INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election. The Commission also reminded political parties and candidates of their obligations under the law, encouraging continued adherence to the electoral timetable and guidelines.
