Lusaka, ZAMBIA — President Hakainde Hichilema has warned public servants that they will not get sympathy from him when it comes to corruption allegations.
Mr Hichilema said that appointees and those serving in public offices have been appointed to serve Zambians and not embezzle tax public resources.
The President has since reiterated that that he will not condone civil servant who misapplies, misappropriates or squanders public resources.
Speaking at State House today when he swore in seven appointees in positions of Ambassador, High Commissioner and Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, the President called on the appointees to execute their duties diligently.
“It is depressing that people continue to do things that they know are wrong and expect those of us sitting in offices to say it is okay. You will not get this from me. That applies to all working in public offices. Sympathy you will not get from me. Let us just do what is right and deliver to the people of Zambia,” Mr Hichilema said.
The President said there was no need for public servants to take more than what is given to them and emphasised that they should work in a clear vision.
“I guess my message is sitting on fertile land,” he advised.
Mr Hichilema stated that the appointees were considered through a strict consultation selection process and that was why they needed to work hard.
“First, I should congratulate all of you for agreeing to serve the country in the roles that you have been appointed. I believe you are very courageous citizens because it will not be business as usual, but hard work,” he said.
Mr Hichilema also advised those going into foreign mission to ensure that they attract investment back home and not expend their energy in politicking.
He further advised the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary George Sinyangwe to serve the ministry with due diligence because health is what drives a nation to better economic development.
The President urge Dr Sinyangwe to ensure that shortages of medicines being heard, to be a thing of the past.
Chibamba Kanyama was sworn in as Zambia’s Ambassador to the US while Machenje Mazoka is High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Gladys Lundwe is Zambia’s Ambassador to Sweden while Kennedy Shepande is High Commissioner to Canada.
