The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday conducted primary elections to elect candidates for the House of Representatives and state Assembly.

TIME AFRICA reports that the exercise which also took place in Ndokwa as announced by the party national leadership, was under stiff security, and rancour-free in the areas monitored.

Hon Charles Emetulu, the member representing Ndokwa West polled a total of 25 votes out of the total votes cast by 32 delegates for the Delta State House of Assembly primary election held in Utagba Uno.

According to the Returning Officer at the close of voting, 32 Local Government delegates were accredited, no void votes and all the votes were counted.

He therefore, declared Hon Charles Emetulu the winner of the contest for polling the highest number of votes in what he described as a free, fair and transparent election.

Emetulu who is about being elected into the Assembly for a second time sees this as an opportunity and not a right, adding that he has a covenant with the people of Ndokwa West to represent them well in the State Assembly.

On how he feels wining the primaries, Emetulu said “I feel humbled sincerely. My allegiance and loyalty is to the people because they made me proud. It shows that they have confidence in me. So, I will do more to earn more of their respect and for posterity sake. I will let them feel happy that they voted for me again. I owe them my allegiance and I have a covenant with them. My people trust and love me. I defeated my competitors by a landslide. That not withstanding, they remain my brothers and we will continue to work together for our people.

“You cannot judge yourself. People have confidence in me, they have confidence in my leadership style and with the way I have attracted infrastructure development to my constituency and to our people. They looked at personal relationship, official relationship, my contributions on the floor of the House and the way I have attracted dividends of democracy. They know that I have contributed immensely to the development of the constituency in terms of health, education, infrastructure development and social development.”

He promised to attract more dividends of democracy to his constituency if reelected in the forthcoming general election.

Significantly, the moment he was announced the winner of the party primary election, the  voting delegates and the entire electorates who were in the Utagba Uno school field erupted in jubilation of victory well-deserved.
