AWKA – As political activities intensify ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, calls for continuity in leadership are growing louder, with prominent stakeholders rallying behind the incumbent, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo. One such voice is that of Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, respected community leader and CEO of Rojenny Tourist Village, who has thrown his weight behind Soludo’s re-election bid, citing landmark achievements and transformative governance.
In an interview with Time Africa, Chief Ezeonwuka lauded Soludo’s performance, describing it as unprecedented in Anambra’s recent history. According to him, the governor has not only redefined infrastructural development across the state but has also laid the groundwork for long-term prosperity through well-thought-out policies and people-centred projects.
“In the realm of governance, few leaders have demonstrated the transformative vision and commitment to infrastructural development that Governor Soludo has exhibited,” Ezeonwuka stated. “His tenure has been marked by ambitious projects that are reshaping our communities, boosting our economy, and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.”
Ezeonwuka said the growing clamour for Soludo’s second term reflects the collective desire of Ndi Anambra to sustain and expand on the progress recorded under his watch. He pointed to the government’s expansive infrastructural drive that cuts across sectors such as road construction, urban renewal, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
One standout project, according to Ezeonwuka, is the construction of the new Anambra State Government House, situated on 28.8 hectares—poised to be one of the most extensive in the country. “Anambra has long lacked a befitting seat of government. This new complex changes that narrative and elevates the state’s stature,” he said.
Another flagship initiative is the Solution Fun City, envisioned as West Africa’s largest leisure park. “This is not just about recreation; it’s a strategic investment in tourism and economic diversification,” Ezeonwuka added.
Highlighting the administration’s focus on road infrastructure, Ezeonwuka noted several ongoing dualisation projects aimed at improving intra-state connectivity. These include:
- Amawbia–Agulu–Nanka–Uga Road (34 km) – N60 billion
- Nwagu Agulu–Nnobi–Nnewi Road (18.6 km) – N33.557 billion
- Nnewi–Ozubulu–Okija Road (16.51 km) – N30.918 billion
In addition to these, key roads like the Trans-Nkisi Boulevard in Onitsha (N2.1 billion), Mbaukwu–Awgbu–Amaetiti–Okpaeze Road (16.37 km, N10.95 billion), and the Nanka–Aguluzigbo–Umuona Road (8.9 km, N7.5 billion) are also under construction.
He also cited landmark projects such as the modern flyover and market complex in Ekwulobia, which he described as critical to enhancing mobility and local commerce in the region.
Beyond roads, the administration has made significant headway in education reform, with 22 secondary schools upgraded into smart schools equipped with modern digital infrastructure. Over 3,000 teachers have been employed to address manpower shortages, while electricity has been restored to the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, ending more than two decades of blackout.
In healthcare, Ezeonwuka highlighted the construction of six new general hospitals and the recruitment of over 300 medical professionals aimed at improving access, particularly in underserved rural areas.
“These are not cosmetic changes,” he remarked. “They are strategic investments designed to create long-term value and improve the standard of living for our people.”
Ezeonwuka also pointed to the development of the Anambra Industrial City, a proposed multi-purpose hub integrating industrial zones, commercial areas, and residential layouts. “This is a calculated step towards positioning Anambra as a regional economic powerhouse,” he said.
On fiscal discipline, Ezeonwuka noted that the state’s N607 billion 2025 budget proposal reflects the administration’s commitment to capital development. “The bulk of this budget goes into infrastructure, education, healthcare, and urban centres like Awka 2.0 and Onitsha 2.0,” he added.
In tackling environmental concerns, the Soludo government has initiated key flood control and erosion mitigation projects. “The ongoing Ekwulobia flood control scheme is a testament to the administration’s proactive approach to environmental sustainability,” Ezeonwuka said.
Summing up his endorsement, Ezeonwuka described Soludo’s first term as one of visionary leadership and inclusive growth. “His focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development has laid a solid foundation. We cannot afford to truncate this progress.”
He further urged the electorate to assess candidates not by promises but by performance. “In Governor Soludo, Ndi Anambra see a legacy worth preserving,” Ezeonwuka affirmed.
As the countdown to the 2025 polls continues, the growing endorsements from political stakeholders, civil society groups, and traditional institutions indicate a strong undercurrent of support for continuity. For many, the message is clear: Anambra’s future lies in sustaining the progress already set in motion.
