Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the PDP, has suggested that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, may be declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the court if he can prove that he received more than 25% of the votes in a greater number of states than his competitors.
During an exclusive interview with the Mic On Podcast, Dele Momodu, the Director of Strategic Communications for the PDP 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, shared his views on Peter Obi’s performance in the last presidential election. He stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate, managed to win eleven states and the FCT due to his perceived freshness among the people.
According to hin “Assume that you needed 25% in 25 states, the constitution would have been specific about it that you need 25% in 25 states or 26 states or 27 states, they will not single out FCT. I have a Master’s Degree in Literature in English and I believe I know sufficient English language and grammer.
“For the constitution to have specifically requested for 25% from Abuja, you can say whatever you want to say. I’m not a lawyer, I’m not a judge, I’m just saying that in this case, Tinubu did not have 25%, Atiku did not have 25% in FCT, so there is a stalement between those declared number one and number two and only the law court can tackle that. Obi is the only person with 25% in the FCT. If Obi proves he won 25% in more states than Atiku and Tinubu, then he will be declared winner.”
When asked whether Bola Tinubu could have won the election had Peter Obi joined forces with Atiku Abubakar, Dele Momodu pointed out that Peter Obi’s success in those states was not solely attributed to his partnership with Atiku in the 2019 presidential election. He emphasized that Peter Obi’s appeal and victory in those states during the recent presidential election were primarily because people saw him as a fresh candidate.
Dele Momodu highlighted that Peter Obi’s performance as Atiku’s running mate in 2019 was not as remarkable as his performance in the last presidential election. He questioned why Peter Obi didn’t secure those same states in 2019 if his association with Atiku was the sole determinant of his success.
In essence, Dele Momodu suggested that attributing Peter Obi’s victory in those states to a hypothetical alliance with Atiku in the 2023 election would be an oversimplification, as other factors, such as his perceived freshness, played a significant role in his electoral success.
Momodu emphasized that Nigeria is facing problems because individuals who previously supported Atiku Abubakar can easily switch their allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Momodu expressed concern about Nigeria’s current state, attributing it to a casual attitude and the tendency to prioritize religion, ethnicity, and friendship. He emphasized the need for patriots to prioritize the country’s welfare over personal relationships and stated that anyone claiming to be a politician is essentially unemployed.
Momodu went on to say that in order to save the country, patriots must rise above the influence of friendship. He believes that anyone who claims to be a politician is essentially jobless, as true patriots should prioritize the well-being of the nation over personal relationships.
