The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has responded emphatically to Chief Chekwas Okorie’s recent address, branding his statements as a collection of falsehoods and misguided allegations.

The party’s reaction comes as part of an ongoing dispute over leadership and legitimacy within the organization.

Mazi Ejimofor Opara KSM, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, issued a press release condemning Okorie’s remarks.

According to Opara, Okorie’s history is marred by deceit, opportunism, and personal betrayal, painting a picture of a man driven by personal gain at the expense of the party’s unity and progress. The press release describes Okorie’s attempts to destabilize the APGA as “desperation-driven” and declares that such actions will not be tolerated.

At the center of the controversy is Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who has been a cornerstone of APGA’s recent successes in Anambra State.

Opara staunchly defended Soludo against accusations of attempting to undermine the party. He highlighted the governor’s significant contributions to both the party and the state, portraying him as a steadfast leader committed to APGA’s advancement.

The press release also addresses Okorie’s claims regarding a leadership crisis within APGA. Opara asserts that Okorie’s interpretation of a recent Supreme Court ruling is flawed.

The Supreme Court’s decision, according to Opara, has been misconstrued by Okorie, whose previous expulsion from APGA in 2009 was validated by the court. The APGA leadership, led by Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has filed an appeal to uphold what it considers the rightful leadership structure of the party.

Opara also accuses Okorie of attempting to mislead the public about his candidacy in the 2023 Presidential election.

According to the APGA statement, both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed Okorie’s claim of being the legitimate APGA candidate, labeling his attempts as fraudulent and motivated by personal interests.

The APGA has expressed frustration over Okorie’s ongoing attempts to discredit the party and its leadership. The statement emphasizes that Governor Soludo and Barrister Ezeokenwa are resolute in their commitment to the party’s principles and are unfazed by what they view as baseless attacks from Okorie and his associates.

Further, Opara questions the opposition to appeals lodged by APGA and its leaders, suggesting that those opposing these appeals are afraid of a potential Supreme Court review.

He challenges the motives of those who resist the appeal process and accuses them of attempting to obscure the truth about the party’s leadership.

APGA’s statement calls for disregarding Okorie’s claims, framing them as self-serving and disconnected from the party’s core values.
