Taming indecent dressing in Schools, Anambra State education commissioner, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Ude, imposes strict regulations, sanctions

Abuja, Nigeria – The Anambra State (South East Nigeria), Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Ude, has cautioned parents against allowing their daughters to wear clothes that reveal their bodies even as she advised them to be both examples and authority to dress their school-age children in ways as to appear decent.

The State’s Commissioner made the appeal at Awka, Anambra State capital on Sept 19, 2022, during an interactive meeting with Education Secretaries of public and mission schools from all the 21 Council areas of the State to discuss way forward for the sector as the next academic session commences .

The Commissioner didn’t hide her displeasure on what she described as “the growing trend of putting on mini-length uniforms (skirts/gowns) in schools,” and advised parents to stop leading their children astray by buying indecent outfits for them.

According to her, “wearing of mini-length uniforms (skirts/gowns) in schools, go against the acceptable dress code for schools in Anambra State.”

Prof Chuma-Udeh pointed out that a student should look smart, well-groomed, project positive vibes and not be indecently dressed for school.

Knee length, the Commissioner noted, remains the acceptable length for school uniforms in the state, not above the knee!

“Moral values are important in whatever stage of life. But most of the values we have as adults were instilled in us during our childhood years. That’s why it’s essential that we teach our children the values that we want them to have as adults.

“Knowing good moral values such as decency, kindness, humility, courage, and compassion at an early age builds a child’s character. It forms the very core of their being and becomes a foundation of their moral beliefs.

“This is why it’s essential to start teaching them moral values while they are still children. Those values mold them to become the person you want them to be.

“Let us infuse the right morals and discipline in students so they grow to be rational human beings, showing them there is more to life.

“If we fail to get it right at this stage, we have failed to protect the future of the children.”
