Abuja, NIGERIA — On August 17, 2024, a vibrant celebration unfolded at Christ the King Parish, Onitsha, as Rev. Fr. Dr. Osy Aloy Orakwe, the esteemed Catholic priest and journalism icon, marked a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of his priestly ordination.

As the Managing Director of Sapientia Radio/TV, Onitsha, Fr. Orakwe’s jubilee attracted an impressive array of attendees, including fellow priests, gospel artists, traditional rulers, religious figures, family, friends, and well-wishers.

The event was a true festival of faith and fellowship. Fr. Orakwe’s classmates from the 1999 priesthood class were present to celebrate and share in the joy of this momentous occasion.

The homily delivered by Rev. Fr. Jude Ezike was particularly moving. He likened Fr. Orakwe’s journey to that of Moses, drawing parallels between Moses’ divine calling and Fr. Orakwe’s 25 years of dedicated service.

Fr. Ezike’s reflections were enriched by anecdotes of their shared experiences, both locally and abroad, highlighting the deep bond and mutual support they have enjoyed over the years.

Fr. Ezike emphasized the significance of this jubilee, noting that it serves as a reminder of Fr. Orakwe’s divine encounter and the profound impact of his service. He praised the support of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace Most Rev. Dr Valerian Okeke, acknowledging the pivotal role played in Fr. Orakwe’s success with Sapientia Radio/TV.

In his response, Fr. Orakwe expressed heartfelt gratitude to former Archbishops Ezeanya and Obiefuna, and especially to the current Archbishop, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout his priesthood. He also extended his thanks to the Parish Priest of CKP Onitsha for his assistance.

The reception that followed was a splendid affair, with beautifully arranged canopies and a feast that delighted guests. Renowned gospel artists such as Gozie Okeke, James Arum, and Chidimma E. provided captivating performances that added to the festive atmosphere. The Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Hugeman Ifeanyi Orakwue, skillfully directed the proceedings.

Prominent attendees included Professor Charles Anakwenze, the traditional ruler of Awkuzu Kingdom, Monsignor (Professor) Nicholas Akwanya, Hon. Dr. Okey Umeano, Dame Dr. Ngozi Nwanosike, and Chief Ikechukwu Areh, CEO of City Radio Onitsha. Directors of Sapientia Radio/TV, including Sir John Odike and Sir Jasper Okpalafuluaku, were also in attendance.

In a heartfelt touch, Fr. Orakwe, known for his love of children, arranged for a group of Block Rosary Crusade children to perform a cultural dance, bringing an added layer of joy to the celebration.

The event was a testament to Fr. Orakwe’s dedication and the profound impact of his 25 years of service to the Catholic Church and the community.
