Barcelona rule out the signing of prodigal duo due to economic reasons

Barcelona are gearing up for a busy summer ahead, with the club likely to bring in multiple star players to help improve the team and give Xavi what he truly needs to build a lasting empire in Catalonia.

In the upcoming summer transfer window, the spotlight will be on two of the generational talents in Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, with both likely to leave their respective clubs in favour of a move elsewhere.

Barcelona remain interested in both the forwards, but it is apparent that the financial implications could be a bit too high for the Catalans to sign even one of the youngsters.

In a recent interview with RAC1 (h/t SPORT), Barcelona President Joan Laporta has effectively confirmed the club’s inability to sign any one of Mbappe or Haaland, citing their hefty economic demands.

When asked about the two players, Laporta responded: “I prefer whoever wants to come play for Barça. So far, neither of them have made it clear to me.”

“What we did get were some economic conditions that we would not accept under any circumstances,” he added, confirming earlier reports that suggested an operation cost of around €200 million to sign Haaland.

As for Mbappe, it is no secret the Frenchman wants to join Real Madrid. He could command a potential salary of up to €25 million per season, which would easily make him one of the highest-paid footballers on the planet.

Fortunately for Barça, they have identified a list of alternatives for both Haaland and Mbappe, with even Robert Lewandowski emerging as a potential option for the Catalan outfit.
