In a momentous ceremony held in Abuja on May 18, 2025, Chief Uchenna Okafor, the Director General of the Taskforce and Monitoring of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA) in Delta State, was honoured with the prestigious title of Peace Ambassador by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF).

The award, which was conferred during a well-attended event in the heart of Nigeria’s capital, recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in fostering peace, unity, and social development within their communities. Chief Okafor, a respected leader known for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, was celebrated not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his significant contributions to promoting peaceful coexistence and collective advancement.

Chief Okafor’s leadership within the COMTOA Taskforce has been marked by efforts to streamline the operations of motorcycle and tricycle operators in Delta State, a sector often plagued by safety and regulatory challenges. Under his stewardship, the association has focused on implementing policies that ensure both the safety of the operators and the public, while also promoting responsible and ethical business practices. His vision for the sector has been widely lauded, with improvements seen in the training of operators and the establishment of a more structured approach to managing the transport sector in the region.

The recognition from the Universal Peace Federation acknowledges Chief Okafor’s broader contributions beyond his professional responsibilities. He has consistently worked towards the betterment of his community, leveraging his position to advocate for peace, social harmony, and the welfare of underrepresented groups. His award as a Universal Peace Ambassador highlights his commitment to these ideals, both in his leadership role and in his personal capacity as a champion of peace.

The Universal Peace Federation, a global organisation committed to promoting peace and human development, bestowed the award after a thorough evaluation of Chief Okafor’s achievements. The Federation’s panel of judges, made up of respected global leaders, noted that his leadership style is centred on inclusivity, mutual respect, and fostering understanding across diverse groups. It was highlighted that his efforts have not only advanced the cause of peace within his state but have also had a ripple effect in broader national conversations on leadership and community development.

Receiving the certificate, Chief Okafor expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, stating that the award was a reflection of the collective efforts of his team and the many individuals who have supported him throughout his career. “This recognition is not just for me,” Chief Okafor remarked, “but for everyone who has worked alongside me to bring about positive change in the lives of the people of Delta State and beyond. We must continue to promote peace and unity as a foundation for progress.”

The event, attended by prominent figures from various sectors of society, also provided a platform for Chief Okafor to advocate for increased collaboration between government agencies, private organisations, and civil society in fostering a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria. His award serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that effective leadership and a commitment to peace can have on local and national development.

As a newly appointed Peace Ambassador, Chief Uchenna Okafor’s role extends beyond the boundaries of his work in Delta State. The honour positions him as a key figure in the global peace-building community, with his efforts expected to inspire others in leadership positions to work towards fostering peace, unity, and progress for all.

The vehicle carrying Burkina Faso's new junta leader Capitain Ibrahim Traore leaves the General Sangoule Lamizana military camp in Ouagadougou on October 8, 2022, following the funerals of 27 soldiers killed as they escorted 207-vehicles in a convoy in Gaskinde. The ambush of the convoy, claimed by Al-Qaeda, officially killed 37 people, including 27 soldiers. Seventy truck drivers remain missing, according to their union. The disaster has become a symbol of the state's inability to secure remote countryside areas and protect local people, 10 years into a bloody jihadist insurgency in the Sahel region. Five days later, Burkina was rocked its second coup in less than nine months -- the fifth in two years in the landlocked West African region. (Photo by Issouf SANOGO / AFP)
