Abuja, NIGERIA — Engr Nkencho Delight Chukwuebuka, the Delta State House of Assembly candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for Oshimili North in the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections yesterday vowed to challenge his defeat in court so as to reclaim his mandate.

The candidate, however, said that the challenge of the outcome of the election became imperative in view of the alleged rigging, intimidation, harassment and shenanigans put up by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress(APC) during the poll.

A defiant Nkencho who said that the election was rigged in favour of his PDP opponent, now the House of Assembly member – elect, says political corruption, BVAS tampering and mysterious votes appearing out of nowhere allowed the opposition party to steal the election.

Nkencho who is showing no signs of surrender and reiterated, that, “the outcome of the election is absolutely not acceptable,” he said.

“This election is about great voter fraud, fraud that has never been seen like this before,” he said in a 10-minute address posted on social media.

He said he has evidence of widespread fraud to overturn the opposition’s margin of victory, making it clear he would head to the court to overturn the election result.

“The election is absolutely being rigged by the dishonest and distorted political parties in corraboration with INEC. The record is clear: they did anything unnecessary—lie, cheat, and steal—to hold onto power.

Nkencho reiterated his wholesale rejection of the election, “I am deeply disappointed and dissatisfied in the outcome of the election which was held on the 18th of March 2023..’

“Right before the election, INEC laid down the rules and regulations guiding the election process but to my greatest disappointment other parties didn’t follow the due processm There was massive rigging and vote buyings also in some polling units the BVAS were not working while some were shutdown and manual process was implied. Our party’s agent were intimidated and malhandled by the opposition parties,” he complained.

“I am a law abiding citizen and I believe in the judiciary, I believe in the law. We won the election and the peoples mandate must be restored,” he said, speaking to about 600 well-heeled supporters. “We will challenge the result in court. I want reassure you all my people of Oshimili North of my commitment and thank you for coming out to vote rightly.”
