Dr. Agbonile, MD, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Nigeria named recipient of 100 ChangeMakers Award 2023

Dr. Imafidon O. Agbonile, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City has been named the recipient of the Time Africa 100 ChangeMakers Awards 2023 for his significant contributions to the field of psychiatry.

In addition to his role as Medical Director, Dr. Agbonile is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and has long been dedicated to helping shape the future of mental health care.

Dr. Agbonile, who is also an Examiner at West Africa College of Physicians since 2012, is best known for his work on ethical issues and public policy relating to both clinical care and research science.

He is an internationally recognized expert in child and adolescent psychiatry, and has been involved in the training of Medical students and Resident doctors for over 20 years.

Dr  Agbonile obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Benin in 1995, after attending Agbado primary school and Eghosa Anglican Grammar school for his primary and secondary school education respectively. His Post graduate medical training (residency) was in Psychiatry at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City and qualified as a specialist Psychiatrist. Thereafter he was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist in January 2008.

He also holds a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH, 2013), another Masters degree in Health planning and management (MHPM, 2019) and  a certificate in Oracle database administration and Solaris Operating system from Oracle University.

Dr  Agbonile is an Examiner at West Africa College of Physicians from 2012 till date and has been involved in the training of Medical students and Resident doctors for over 20 years.

His interests, experience and skills cuts across Medicine, Management, Marketing and Information Communication Technology sectors. His Interest in Psychiatry is Child and Adolescent Mental Health while interest in Management is organizational behaviour and management. Interest in the Marketing field is health care systems branding and Marketing.

He is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACPsych) in April 2007; Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management of Nigeria; Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants; Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria. 

Dr Agbonile was the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) national website webmaster and the National Coordinator of the NMA e-learning Project. He has presented/published several academic papers in both local and international journals.

It’s a great honor for Dr. Agbonile and a fitting recognition of his dedication and outstanding contributions to the field to be named in the long list Time Africa 100 ChangeMakers in 2023. 

Dr. Agbonile says he is deeply honored to have received 100 ChangeMakers Award, which is given annually by Time Africa Magazine to Africans who have made outstanding and sustaining contributions in the several fields.
