Abuja, NIGERIA — Enugu born journalist and accomplished media expert, Dr. Chidipeters Okorie, has been appointed to the Advocacy and Public Affairs Team of the South East Business Investment Summit (SEBIS). Renowned for his role as the Editor-in-Chief of Time Africa, a prominent Pan-African magazine, Dr. Okorie is set to leverage his extensive background in mass communications and public relations to bring a critical voice to the South East Nigeria.

His appointment was announced today at a formal inauguration led by Dr. Ifedi Okwenna, the Executive Secretary of SEBIS.

During his opening remarks, Dr. Okwenna emphasized the necessity for a robust and consistent advocacy platform, particularly given the recent challenges facing the South East geopolitical zone. He noted that the “unfortunate lopsidedness and unending exclusion” from vital national discussions have rendered the region’s concerns overlooked and marginalized.

Dr. Okorie is expected to bring with him a wealth of knowledge and insight, essential for navigating the often-challenging political landscape and advancing the South East’s agenda. His membership of SEBIS is anticipated to galvanize regional stakeholders and empower collective action towards securing sustainable development goals for the South East.

The team’s overarching objective is to facilitate proactive engagement with stakeholders to foster an environment wherein the South East can assert its interests and developmental goals. Dr. Okorie’s role will involve not only advocating for regional representation but also shaping the perception of the South East both nationally and internationally.

In light of the mounting need for a united voice, Dr. Okwenna stated that, “Our usual silence or feeble non-sustainable protests have continued to embolden our traducers,” alluding to the urgent call for the South East to reclaim its significance within the national discourse. The formation of the SEBIS Advocacy and Public Affairs Team (APAT) is aimed at regularly researching and projecting the implications of decisions that adversely affect the region.

The SEBIS APAT comprises a diverse membership tasked with various responsibilities, listing prominent figures including Chief Nwabueze Njoku – Chairman, and Dr. Chudi Okoye – Co-chairman from the diaspora, alongside a panel of experts spanning diverse sectors. Their combined efforts and expertise aim to create a comprehensive strategy that addresses South East development, image management, and stakeholder engagement

The team’s Terms of Reference include the development of advocacy strategies that underscore South East interests, fostering relationships with governmental entities, and managing regional image in broader national conversations. Additionally, the team will analyze national policies and track changes impacting the South East to amplify community voice and relevance in policy making.
