EFCC detains, quizzes 9 Enugu LGA Chairmen

As the elected local government chairmen in Enugu state wind up their two-year tenure, many of them are being quizzed by the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over misappropriation of funds and embezzlements running into billions of naira during their time as council chairmen.

While many of them are gripped with fear of the unknown, nine local government chairman were reportedly detained and quizzed last week.

Chairmen quizzed include, Nkanu East, Okechukwu Sydney Edeh; Igbo-Etiti, Ikenna Nwodo; Ezeagu, Hon. Chukwudi Austine Ozoeluba; Awgu, Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo; Enugu East, Hon. Livinus Nze Anike, Nkanu West, Uchenna Ejim; Enugu North, Hon Emeka Onunze; Igbo-Eze South, Hon Vitus Okechi.

Five of the chairmen were granted bail same day, while four were detained and grilled but were released on bail the follow morning.

Some of the council chairmen in Enugu have gone into hiding for the fear of anti graft agency.

The were also accused of diverting some percentage of the monthly federal allocation and internally generated revenue for their personal use against the financial regulations.

It was alleged that all the suspects while undergoing interrogation are now pleading with the EFCC to give them some time to resolve their accounts

They will be charged to court after the investigations had been concluded.
