Enugu, NIGERIA — Enugu State Local Council Chairmen are currently facing backlash after facts emerged that they allegedly squandered special funds received from the Federal Government prior to the 2023 general elections.

The 17 locals government Chairmen are accused of self- aggradizement, divertion, embezzlement of a whooping sum of N1,190,000,000 (One billion, One Hundred And Nineety Million Naira).

Reports say all the Council Chairman are holding meetings after meetings to find ways to douse the tension following a strong-worded petition by aggrieved Local Government Councillors.

Recently, the Councillors were said to have convened a high-powered meeting where strong decisions were reached which include petitioning Governor Peter Mbah, “to prevail on the Council Chairman and the cronies to return to the Councils’ coffers the whopping sum of N1,190,000,000 siphoned.”

The visibly angry Councilors vowed to petition anti-graft agencies, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independence and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate all the Council Chairmen to know the rationale behind their action.

The Councillors gave the breakdown of how the money was shared as follows:
