At least 162 killed in extremist attacks on villages in western Nigeria

Lagos, NIGERIA — In a recent verdict at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Happiness Sunday, a former gateman, has been labeled a ‘sexual terrorist’ and sentenced to triple life imprisonment for the grave act of sexually assaulting his employer’s children, aged 10 and eight.

Justice Abiola Soladoye, presiding over the case, handed down the severe sentence to Sunday, finding him guilty on three counts related to defilement and sexual assault by penetration, as brought forward by the Lagos State Government.

The prosecution successfully demonstrated the veracity of the charges against the defendant, revealing a harrowing pattern of abuse that unfolded within the employer’s household. According to the judge, the defendant’s actions came to light when the older child reported the inappropriate touching to their grandmother, seeking her intervention. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the defendant had also been assaulting the younger sibling.

The case was promptly reported to the CeCe Yara Foundation and subsequently to the police. Despite the defendant’s denial of the accusations, Justice Soladoye firmly asserted, “The defendant denied touching the children, but he is a liar.”

The judge ruled that the prosecution had indeed proven the elements of defilement and sexual assault by penetration under Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. In her scathing condemnation of the defendant’s actions, she described him as “a sexual terrorist who ravished children, a disloyal worker, egoistic, a terrible person whose sexual perversion is unacceptable.” She concluded that his conduct was “utterly disgraceful” and ordered that he be incarcerated for life, with his name added to the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

Justice Soladoye took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of vigilant parenting, urging parents to watch over their children diligently.

During the trial, the state counsel, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke, presented four witnesses and submitted three exhibits as evidence, while the convict testified as the sole witness in his defense.

The Lagos State Government revealed that the offenses were committed in 2020 on Jaye Oyedotun Street, Magodo, Lagos State.

Congo produced 72 percent of the worlds cobalt last year, according to Darton Commodities. And demand for the metal is exploding due to its use in the rechargeable batteries that power mobile phones and electric cars.
