The leadership of Mburubu Town Union (MTU) has issued a strong condemnation against Mr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, who has falsely claimed to be both the Igwe-elect and the substantive Igwe of Mburubu. The MTU emphasized that these assertions are entirely unfounded and malicious, urging the public to disregard them.
This was stated in a public announcement dated March 17th, 2025 and signed by
Hon. Emmanuel S. Edeh President-General, Mburubu Town Union; Ozo John Nwosu
Secretary-General, Mburubu Town Union and Mr. Dominico Okwudiri Ogbu, Public Relations Officer, Mburubu Town Union.
According to the MTU, the Enugu State Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs has not conducted an Igweship election in Mburubu, and thus, Mr. Onuokaibe’s claims have no basis in law. Furthermore, only the MTU’s President-General and national executive officers possess the legal authority to organize such elections, a process that has not yet taken place.
The MTU highlighted that the issue of Igweship in Mburubu is governed by the 2003 Mburubu Town Constitution, which mandates a rotational system based on village seniority. The document, signed by key stakeholders including the late Igwe EMO Ezeh, clearly stipulates that the Igweship rotates among the seven villages of Mburubu. As per this agreement, the next in line for the throne is Uhuegbe village, not Umunafor, from which Onuokaibe hails.
