National Sports Festival 2022: Nasarawa State contingents gear towards more gold medals

Asaba, Nigeria – The Nigeria National Sports Festival is the only large–scale athlete event in the country that offers great opportunity for sports enterprises to research, enter and develop young sports stars – it’s one of the most potential sports markets of the country. The events, currently hosting the Oil-rich Niger Delta, Asaba the capital of Delta State gather the most outstanding of sports contingents from the 36 State of the Federation of Nigeria to participate in nearly 40 indoors and outdoors games.

Nasarawa State is one of the participating States with strong contingents in 27 games of the events.

Going through 2022 National Sports Festival full of strong competing contingents from other States, the biggest success of Nasarawa State continents is to sail through the obstacles and successfully compete and win medals in the majority of tournaments.

Apparently, the State knows sports in Nigeria better than many States. Why? Well, the State government has continued to organise sports event series for it teeming youths with attendance by teams from the entire LGAs of the State. It serves as athletic performance measurement platform for the State contingents. This initiative is the only one of its kind in Nigeria and offers Nasarawa athletes truly 21st century assessments.
Though the State Commissioner for Information, Ambassador Lucky Isaac Yargwa said ” we are Building sporting infrastructures to further strengthen our pursuit in building a good sporting State that will rub shoulders with other States of the country”.

In addition, he said, the ongoing National Sports Festival is a litmus test for Nasarawa States even as he was sure that his State’s contingents will be amongst the top 10 at the end of the tournaments.

So far, he said, the State has taken a big step forward, winning gold medals in many of the events.

For the Nasarawa State, this big gathering of athletes in Asaba, capital of Delta State, marks a coming of age, a turning point reflecting the recognition of the State Governor Abdullahi Sule’s efforts to integrate the region into the Africa sports and, by extension, the world.

The commissioner said, Nasarawa has already been growing from strength to strength as a sporting power.

The flame ignited by the Governor has spurred the young contingents with an arduous and glorious journey, with which they have overcame strong rivals continents to clinch medals. Those triumphs have created great confidence among Nasarawa’s sports officials, players and fans, consolidating the faith in a bright future of rising to approach the continental level.

The Nasarawa played on a par with the powerhouses and demonstrated their superiority with stable form and a resilient fighting spirit.

Sports fans in the State as well as media and experts, have expressed their admiration and amazement at the remarkable progress and significant achievements of Nasarawa contingents so far.

Around 10,000 athletes, coaches, and sports delegations have arrived for competitions in 40 sports.
