Delta State, NIGERIA — As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day, Chief Uchenna Okafor, the Director General of the Taskforce and Monitoring for the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA), Asaba, Delta State, has urged citizens to reflect on the nation’s journey while emphasizing the need for unity and forward-thinking strategies to foster a brighter future.

In his statement commemorating the day, Chief Okafor reflected on the historical context of Nigeria’s independence, recognizing the sacrifices made by the nation’s founding fathers and the ongoing challenges that have shaped the country’s identity. “This day serves as a poignant reminder of our past struggles and triumphs,” he noted. “It is a time for reflection, not just on what we have accomplished, but on the work still ahead to create a better Nigeria for all.”

Chief Okafor acknowledged the various strides Nigeria has made over the past 64 years, including advancements in technology, education, and infrastructure. However, he also pointed out the persistent challenges, such as economic instability, security concerns, and social inequality.

“While we celebrate our achievements, we must also confront the issues that continue to hinder our progress,” he stressed. “It is essential that we approach these challenges with a unified front and a determination to effect positive change.”

He underscored the importance of inclusivity in governance, urging that all voices be heard in the ongoing dialogue about Nigeria’s future. “A prosperous Nigeria can only be achieved when every citizen feels represented and empowered to contribute to national development,” he stated.

In particular, Chief Okafor praised Delta State Governor Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for his steadfast commitment to advancing the state through the MORE agenda. This initiative focuses on sustainable development, economic growth, and improved governance, aimed at uplifting the lives of Delta State residents.

“Governor Sherif is not only honoring the legacies of his predecessors but is also pioneering initiatives that aim to uplift Delta State,” he remarked. “His vision for a greater Delta aligns with our collective aspirations for progress and unity.”

Chief Okafor highlighted specific achievements under the Governor’s leadership, such as infrastructure improvements, educational reforms, and healthcare initiatives. “These developments are essential for creating an environment where our citizens can thrive,” he added.

He further emphasized the vital role that the commercial motorcycle and tricycle sectors play in the local economy. These services provide essential transportation and job opportunities for countless citizens, particularly in urban areas.

“As we reflect on our independence, we must also recognize the contributions of every sector to the nation’s growth,” he stated.

He called for policies that support these operators, ensuring they can continue to thrive and contribute positively to the economy.

Chief Okafor made a heartfelt appeal for unity among Nigerians. He called on citizens from all walks of life to work collaboratively toward a future marked by peace, prosperity, and inclusiveness.

“Let us honor our past by committing to a future where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” he urged. “Together, we can build a Nigeria that we can all be proud of. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the next 64 years are filled with hope and progress for generations to come.”
