Nigeria Bans Indomie Vegetable Noodles Over Undeclared Allergens

Nigeria’s food and drug regulator has announced a ban on Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles after discovering the presence of undeclared allergens that could pose serious health risks to consumers.

In a public alert issued on Friday, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said the affected product contains milk and eggs that were not declared on the label—an omission that could endanger people with allergies or food intolerances.

The alert, published on NAFDAC’s official website, follows a notification from France’s food safety authority, Rappel Conso, which announced a recall of the product in the European country.

“Public Alert No. 041/2025: Recall of Indomie brand noodles (Vegetable Flavour Product) due to the presence of undeclared allergens (milk and eggs),” the agency said.

According to NAFDAC, the recall applies to:

  • Product: Noodles Vegetable Flavour
  • Brand: Indomie
  • Batch: All lots
  • Best Before Date: February 6, 2026
  • Country of Origin: Not stated

NAFDAC noted that Indomie noodles have become a household staple in many countries, valued for their affordability, convenience and versatility in family meals.

The agency stressed, however, that while the risk of the recalled product entering Nigeria remains low—due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation—there is still a need for heightened vigilance to prevent possible illicit entry or circulation.

NAFDAC said it has commenced surveillance and other vigilance measures, warning that acquisition through online purchases or international travel cannot be ruled out.

The regulator has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators nationwide to intensify monitoring efforts and immediately remove the product from circulation if found.

Distributors, retailers and consumers were also urged to remain cautious and vigilant to prevent the distribution, sale or consumption of the recalled foreign-brand noodles.

NAFDAC advised consumers in possession of the product not to consume it and to dispose of it safely. Members of the public were encouraged to report any sightings or suspected sales of the affected Indomie noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s toll-free line, 0800-162-3322.

The agency also urged consumers to report any adverse reactions linked to the product through NAFDAC offices or its e-reporting platforms available on the official website.
