NIGERIA – Delta Civil Servant, Charles Isiaye, arrested for multiple alleged threats to lives, kidnap

A Director, Finance and Accounts in Delta State, Comrade Isiaye Charles has been arrested by the Nigeria Police for allegedly claiming to be a sponsor of kidnapping gang and threats to kidnap and eliminate, according to several news reports.

He was nabbed in Asaba, Delta State by the police detectives attached to the FCID, Abuja, for allegedly threatening to kidnap the National President of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, the Branch Chaiman and others over union rife.

Reports says Isiaye made several recoded videos where he called out his targets to pass his threats and to make demands.

He also allegedly threatening the lives of the Union’s Executive both at the National and State levels in video and audio clips made available.

He was said to been rounded up by the Police who made use of intelligence system developed to get to the bases of the crime and at the suspect.

His arrest followed petitions received by the Inspector General of Police who directed further investigations into the matter to unearth more evidence for proper prosecution.

Other suspects fingered in the threat to kindap are at large.

It was also gathered that in his attempt to evade police arrest he vehemently confronted and violently assaulted the police officers who had come to issue him police invitation.

Reports say when the officers placed him on police invitation, he refused to comply and was uncooperative which made the police to place him on immediate arrest, which he resisted as he was violent and combative while resisting. After a great effort, the police were eventually able to secure his arrest and he has been transported to the Police Headquarters Abuja for further investigations and possible prosecution.

If indicted, Isiayi could face a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment for threat, felony counts and assault on the police.

Threatening someone with harm or death can result in serious penalties. It’s a crime even if you don’t intend to carry out the threat.

When contracted the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe could not immediately confirm the arrest.
