NIGERIA – Osagie Eholor: “PDP, APC, NLC destroyed Nigeria, but Peter Obi has clean slate to advance the country”

There is something so special about Prince Patrick Osagie Eholor. He has been heavily involved in activism where he projects governance issues for decades, renowned for his commitment to it and for speaking out on various issues affecting the people. He has also visited several States in Nigeria and other African countries as a speaker on activism, where he enjoyed Africans to join in his collective demand to bring about deep change, radical change in the continent. Prince Eholor doesn’t waste time on small talk. His stint as the first and only African to institute over 61 cases against government of Nigeria and has not loss any, but he remains a present-day revolutionist. The reason Prince Eholor doesn’t waste time is simple: there’s still far too much to be done. Having spent a lifetime fighting for the black people rights in Canada and now fighting poverty in Africa and bad governance, he has no intention of slowing down. In this interview, he doesn’t want to expend precious minutes on niceties or beating around the bush, straight to the point. He talks about Labour Party; its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi; how he helped the emergence of Olusegun Mimiko as governor of Ondo State and the first Labour Party governor in Nigeria;  and by extension, his unending wars with the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and even the past governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He spoke exclusively to TimeAfrica at the venue of the Labour Party Presidential Primary Election held in Asaba, Delta State capital recently. Excerpts

Can we meet you sir?

My name is Prince Patrick Osagie Eholor, a social crusader also known as Ultimate Equal

Chief Osagie you have been a Human Right Activist, we’ve seen incidents where you were arrested, battered and a lot of things happened to you. And here you are today in the venue of the party primaries of Labour Party. What motivated you to be here? Are you a member of Labour Party?

I remain a party member forever but besides that I’m a progressive. And when Labour Party was not anywhere I singlehandedly funded Labour Party in Edo State. You also know when Mimiko contested under Labour Party and became one of the only Governors we had in Labour Party. So I have been with them for a very long time before today. But besides that, my coming here is not for Labour Party; it is you and I participate in building a Nigeria of our dream. That’s my reason of being here.

So you believe in the Labour Party Presidential Candidate?

Well I believe in him; I believe that that PDP and APC are intertwine; they are the same parents and they destroyed this country. And I will not see anybody who has been so human dis-oriented to support PDP or APC. They are not parties one can think of. They destroyed us. And looking at Peter Obi’s antecedence and I read a lot about him and I saw what he left. There is no government in Nigerian history that ever left such money like that. And you can also see the man who took after him how he destroyed the economy of Anambra State. And this is a man who said there’s no money to share. And that was the primary reason he opted out from the Presidential primaries with Atiku, Wike and the rest of them. So, a man like that who has this clean slate and who wants to make Nigeria better for all of us I would be very happy to support him; because I have been in Canada for 35 years; I have dual citizenship; and the politics we play in Canada it’s not a money politics. As a matter of fact cap. If you want to make politics work there must be cap for contribution. Don’t forget that he who pays the piper dictates to tune. In Canada they have a law that you cannot donate more than $5,000 as a campaign contribution. You can’t even do it in America. So, I find something very similar with me and him (Peter Obi) and that’s why myself, my household, my friends and family will campaign day and night to the students, the market women to support his candidacy to become the President of Nigeria; but with reservation. The reservation is that I saw a lot of NLC members here today. NLC is Nigeria Labour Congress. NLC destroyed the fabric of this country. NLC represents NOTHING. And that is why I’m going to have one on one meeting with him if I need to support him. Ultimate Equal is not one man. I am a million. The whole Diaspora when I speak they listen to me because they believe in me. Because they know that I’ve been in this struggle for more than 25 years. Because I tell people that I will rather be free or die. I walk with no police; I walk with no security because I want a better Nigeria that we don’t need a police to go to toilet; we don’t need a police to go to school. Look at this example now, ASUU has been on strike and I’m in the fore-front of that; I took the Government to court on that. The Autonomy I took the Government to Court on that. I have more than 63 cases with Federal Government. And don’t forget that when they banned Tweeter I was the man who took them to ECOWAS Court too. I can tell you many more. So I am here to say that if we must support Peter Obi continuously, we must know the stand of NLC. Because NLC has never believed in anything good. We still have Nigerians receiving less than N30,000 minimum wage and they are buying house in Maitama. How can you be a leader and conductor die and you say you represent the conductor, the Pressmen, you represent the market women and don’t even know how the Pressmen sleep in a day. That is fraud. So we must be very clear about that. But if we’re able to define the Nigerian Labour Congress out of this, I’m not saying they opt out because politics is inclusive. But if we’re able to define their stand I can assure you that Peter Obi is the man to be beaten. We’re going to beat Atiku hands down; we’re going to beat Tinubu or anybody they are going to bring out in APC. But we must define the role of NLC because have destroyed the fabric of Nigeria.

Quickly sir, you are moving back and front with Edo State Governor. You have been in Court with him in and out. What is the situation starting from Oshiomole down to Obaseki. They see you as being arrogant in the state.

They see me as a threat. There’s a difference between arrogant and threat. When a man is content or rich; I’m a very rich man because I’m content. And this what you find in Canada. I’m just sighting an example. I’m not trying to deviate. In this COVID-19 every Canadian citizens got a hundred thousand. So if you are comfortable you will not steal, you will not lie or sell your soul. I’m a very comfortable man. Oshiomole narrowly escaped me. Because I thought Oshiomole was who I thought he was but when I got to know him, then, I describe him as a man who wears khaki in the day and white lace in the night. And these are the people you call NLC. The last time we saw an NLC man was the time of Chief Imodu; that was the time NLC ended. Not the time of these khaki in the day white lace in the night. Listen Labour leadership is not about amassing wealth. They are not Pastors who want to build castles on earth. Labour leadership is about patriotism; is about being a brother’s keeper. That is what it means everywhere in the world. The word Comrade came from Cuba. So, what I’m saying here is that for Oshiomole his time has gone, he tried; he narrowly succeeded in grabbing the ticket now as an ex-Governor. If he had done so well too God will decided that. But the ticket wouldn’t have been a struggle at all. Obaseki is not a technocrat. Obaseki failed in every ramification. But that is the true story. But because you guys are outsiders you see pictures on the internet and you think Obaseki is doing something. Obaseki is doing nothing. Edo state has the highest unemployment. Edo state has borrowed the highest money that you can ever imagine. Edo state has the highest prostitution rate. Oba Atokpeei forgive me on this. Edo state has the highest cultists other than unknown gunmen. Obaseki has done nothing other than to just amass wealth; I don’t know if he’s going to live 100 years more; I don’t know why he’s amassing so much wealth to himself. I’m not here to fight them. I’m here to make it better for you for me and for my children. I’m not a threat to them; they are rather a threat to the society because they are not doing what is right.
