Nigerian Doctor Heartbroken as Wife Walks Away Just 4 Months After Moving to Canada

A Nigerian doctor is grappling with the emotional fallout of a marriage that collapsed shortly after relocating to Canada with his wife and two young daughters. In an emotional post shared on Facebook with Adeolatalks, the man, who identifies as Yoruba, revealed his devastation over the breakdown of his relationship and the involvement of the Canadian criminal justice system in his personal life.

“I swear my wife ruined me in this country, and we just landed,” the man said, speaking bitterly about his situation. His post has since sparked a mixture of reactions on social media, with many expressing sympathy, while others offered their own perspectives on the complex issue.

The man, who is a doctor, explained that his wife, also a doctor, and their two daughters had moved to Canada just four months before their separation. He claims that his wife exploited the Canadian criminal justice system, which is often unsympathetic toward claims of domestic abuse. According to the man, his wife filed claims against him, leading to his involvement in a legal battle that left him emotionally and financially drained.

In his post, the man was candid about the struggles in their marriage. He admitted to arguments with his wife and acknowledged that his behavior might have been controlling at times. However, he was quick to clarify that he never resorted to physical violence. “I admit we had arguments, and I accept that because I am older than her, I may have lorded some authority over her. My controlling behavior was wrong, and I apologize. But I never for once hit her. It felt to me like a set-up,” he said.

While the doctor confessed to his own faults in the marriage, he also accused his wife of being financially irresponsible. He shared that his wife had become entangled in a loan cycle worth approximately 10 million naira, which she took out in Nigeria for personal expenses. The money was intended to be part of their proof of funds for immigration, but she reportedly squandered it without any tangible result. The man expressed his shock and disappointment upon discovering the loan, stating that he had been unaware of it due to his absence from the country at the time.

“I was livid when I found out about the loan and even sought to end the marriage because of her recklessness,” he said. “She used Canadian immigration as a bargaining chip, claiming that if I didn’t provide funds for proof of funds, she would not travel with me or the children.”

In a further twist, the man revealed that his wife had placed a restraining order on him, making it impossible for him to contact her. “As I speak to you, I do not know where she lives, and I cannot talk to her because she issued a restraining order against me in this country, which she refused to lift even when asked by the government,” he lamented. The man also mentioned that he had reached out to her family in Nigeria for assistance, but they had declined to intervene.

Despite his efforts to reconcile, the doctor claimed his estranged wife is now living with another man. “I have done my best to get her back, but she got the police to put a no-contact order on me from the very first day. Her family won’t get involved,” he shared, expressing deep frustration and sadness over the situation.

The man’s story has drawn a range of emotional responses from the public. Some social media users empathized with his plight, offering words of encouragement and support. “If everything you said is true, then worry not. Karma might be slow, but it surely exists,” one commenter, Maria Jubril, said, advising him to focus on his personal growth. Other commenters expressed similar sentiments, encouraging the doctor to prioritize his mental health, finances, and future.

“I understand how it feels in Canada,” said Tobi Alarape, a fellow commenter. “Focus on yourself, your mental health, and your finances first. It is well with you, brother.”

Despite the heartbreaking nature of his story, the doctor’s experience highlights the emotional and financial complexities many immigrants face as they navigate relationships, legal systems, and new environments in foreign countries. His plea for support, both emotionally and from his estranged wife’s family, underscores the challenges that often go unnoticed in the aftermath of migration.
