A trainer aircraft belonging to the Nigeria Air Force crashed during a routine training exercise in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. The incident occurred on Friday evening, and fortunately, both pilots on board managed to eject safely.
The Nigeria Air Force released a statement confirming the crash. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, provided details of the incident. According to the statement, the FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed at approximately 4:15 pm while conducting a routine training exercise.
The statement further assured the public that there were no casualties or damage to property in the vicinity of the crash site. The pilots successfully ejected from the aircraft and are currently receiving medical attention at the NAF Base Hospital in Makurdi.
To investigate the incident, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has constituted a Board of Inquiry. The Board’s primary task will be to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the crash.
