Abuja, NIGERIA — Today marks a significant milestone as Nigeria’s First Free All-girls OPM Technical College conducts its inaugural entrance examination. While technical colleges in Nigeria exist for both boys and girls, there has been a notable absence of institutions dedicated solely to female students.

The importance of empowering the girl child financially cannot be overstated, particularly as many face economic challenges that can impact their educational journey. For those whose families struggle to meet academic expenses, the pressures can lead to dire choices, including engaging in prostitution to support their needs.

The establishment of the All-Girls OPM Technical College aims to address these issues by providing a supportive environment where female students can learn various trades while pursuing their education. This initiative not only equips them with practical skills but also offers an alternative path should they choose to enter the workforce directly after college.

The college’s curriculum is designed to balance academic and technical education, with a 50/50 split between traditional courses and practical training. This holistic approach ensures that students are well-prepared for future challenges, whether they decide to further their studies or enter the job market.
