Enugu, NIGERIA — The Ebeano Political Group founded by Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

The Ebeano political Group founder established since 1999 has remained the dominant political force in Enugu State, until recently when Peter Obi’s political hurricane stopped greater number of their members from political hold of Enugu State.

The group had consistently produced state governors, senators, members of House of Representatives, House of Assembly members, Ministers as well as local government council officials in the state since its inception.

The Group’s decision to join the APC is coming barely 24hrs after Senator Nnamani lost his bid to return to the Senate on the platform of the PDP to Labour Party’s Kelvin Chukwu.

The chairman of the Ebeano group, Chief Emmanuel Okwor, announced the decision of the group to join the APC on Tuesday.

Okwor, in a statement, said the alliance with the APC “is to consolidate the partnership with President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to achieve good governance in the country.”

According to him, members of the Ebeano political family across the country have been consulted and in agreement with the alliance in the interest of the people.

The Ebeano chieftain stated that the interest and welfare of the group will be better served under the APC structure in the country.

The group is led by Governor Ugwuanyi according to its tradition that the highest political office holder in the state is always the leader of the group.

Recalled that the former Enugu State Governor Nnamani now Senator representing Enugu East, last Monday, announced his resignation from the PDP barely 24 hours after losing his bid to return to the Senate on the same platform.

Senator Nnamani said he has consulted with his associates and constituents alike and have decided to quit the PDP on account of irreconcilable differences with the national leadership of the party .

He said he has moved on and hoped that his modest contributions to the development of his constituency will be the building blocks on which his successors can build on.

The federal lawmaker expressed gratitude to Nigerians especially the Ebeano political family and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead.

His statement read in part, “The former Governor reaffirmed his acquaintance with the President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promised to continue to partner with him.

“Senator Nnamani expressed optimism that a Tinubu Administration will promote good governance ,rule of law and human rights for the interest of all Nigerians.”

He had openly conversed for the then Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress now President-Elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu against the candidate of his party, Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 elections.

PDP had suspended him and thereafter expelled him from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
