Abuja, NIGERIA — Nollywood actress, Jennifer Ogbonna, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly swindling one Ikenedilechukwu Odume of the sum of N3.77million under false pretence.

The 36-year-old actress has been arrested and charged with obtaining under false pretence and stealing.

The incident happened at Palace Road in Amikanle area of Alagbado, where Jennifer contacted the complainant, Odume, and obtained the money through her GTBANK account number, 0240058680.

According to the Police, the embattled actress contacted the complainant and obtained the money under false pretence of producing a movie for DSTV Africa Magic.

However, after the complainant paid her the amount of money, she neither produced the movie nor refunded the money. Rather, she bolted away and disconnected every form of communication she had with the complainant.

She was also alleged to have promised the complainant that she would register him with the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria.

She forged the association’s identity card and gave it to him, which turned out to be a scam.

Thus, the matter was reported to the Police at Alagbado Division and she was arrested.

She was consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, she pleaded not guilty before the Court.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre, pending when she is able to perfect her bail
