Ogbako Ndigbo UK, a prominent Igbo community organization, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General Worldwide of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who died on July 25, 2024. Chief Iwuanyanwu, widely celebrated for his transformative impact on the Igbo community and Nigeria at large, was a towering figure in both politics and business.

In a statement released today, the organization, led by Dr. Jude Eze, President; Dr. Daisy Nwaozuzu, Vice President; and Barrister Kenneth Udeoka, Secretary General, extended their heartfelt condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family and the broader Igbo community. The statement highlighted Chief Iwuanyanwu’s significant contributions, describing him as an exemplary leader, philanthropist, and businessman.

Chief Iwuanyanwu’s legacy includes his remarkable work as an engineer and business mogul, his dedication to advancing Igbo culture, and his substantial investments in Nigerian youth through sports, scholarships, and job creation. Notably, he halted his studies during the Nigerian Civil War to contribute to the Biafra Research and Production unit, underscoring his commitment to his people.

His notable achievements include the establishment of the Hulder Children Library at the University of Nigeria and the mentorship of numerous Igbo figures who have since risen to prominent political and administrative positions. His contributions earned him several national honors, including Member Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR), Officer Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR), Commander Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR), and a Knight of the Order of St. Christopher.

Ogbako Ndigbo UK’s statement mourns the loss of Chief Iwuanyanwu, noting his invaluable role as Chairman of the Council of Elders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and his profound wisdom and guidance. The organization, along with the Imo State Government and the global Igbo community, reflects on his legacy with deep respect and sorrow.

“It is with deep sadness and a great sense of loss that ‘Ogbako Ndigbo UK’ mourns the death of Ohaneze President General Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo) on 25th July 2024.

“We send our deepest condolences to the Iwuanyanwu’s family, and the entire Igbo communities over the demise of their illustrious son at this difficult time. We join all well-meaning Igbos, Nigerians and Africans to mourn and celebrate the exemplary cum extraordinary life of this great politician, business mogul, philanthropist and great leader.

“As a seasoned Engineer and business mogul, we recall his commitment and dedication to not only the Igbo cultural heritage but also to the empowerment of Nigerian youths through sports, publishing, scholarships and employment generation. He even interrupted your studies (1967-1970) to be drafted into the Biafra Research and Production (RaP). What a great sacrifice. He single handedly built and handed over the ‘Hulder Children Library’ to the University of Nigeria, you empowered and supported many sons of Igbo land to become commissioners, governors, senators, ministers and most of whom are still alive to attest to his believe and good cause. For his good deeds, he was rewarded with various recognitions and awards of the of Member Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR), Officer Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) and Commander Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR), and a Knight of the Order of St. Christopher. His great counseling and wisdom were depicted during his role as Chairman, of the Council of Elders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Ogbako Ndigbo UK commiserates with the whole Igbo Communities, the Imo State Government, Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide and the Nigeria over the loss of a great and illustrious son.
