Onuokaibe honours women on International Women’s Day

Abuja, NIGERIA — The Group Managing Director of Mburubu Construction Company (MCC), Engr Patrick Jerry Onuokaibe has praised women for their many substantial achievements and contributions to the development of the society.

Speaking to mark the International Women’s Day celebration, Onuokaibe said the economic growth and empowerment of women is inextricably linked to the potential of nations to generate economic growth and sustainable democracy, even as he acknowledged the obstacles that women still face in the struggle for equal rights and opportunities.

Hosting hundreds of women in Lagos, Onuokaibe, said, “it is with great pride that I join women from across this country in recognizing of the many economic, political, cultural, and social achievements of women.

“Women in this nation have time and again shown their strength and resilience in national building.

“We must reaffirm our commitment to end gender based discrimination in all forms, to end violence against women and girls.

“I take time to reflect on the substantial advancement of women in Nigeria and the work that still must be done.

“I am committed to the advancement of women in the workforce that is why 40% of Staff in my companies are women; and they are excelling.

“Through my Foundation, I have established grant programs for women-owned small businesses to help create the internal business systems that are essential for success.

While commending Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for improved access to economic, political and social opportunities for women in Enugu State, Onuokaibe said: “Investing in women is the best way to secure stronger communities and economies around the world.”

“Importantly, I congratulate Mburubu women who are both farmers and caregivers, playing leading role in advancing food security for their families and the country. I commend the powerful women of Enugu State for their greatness.”
