The Organised Markets Women Leaders in Enugu South/Enugu North Federal Constituency have reaffirmed their strong commitment to massively vote for Hon. Mrs Juliet Egbo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for House of Representatives, insisting that their choice was founded on mutual interests and shared values, to achieve gender equality, democratic governance, to promote rule of law and human rights.
The markets women leaders drawn various markets in the Constituency, assured of voting massively for Mrs Egbo irrespective of the party she is running on.
Mrs Egbo is contesting to represent Enugu South/Enugu North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
The markets women leaders representing near a million markets/business women interacted extensively with Mrs. Egbo in Enugu on Sunday ahead of February 25 election, and reiterated their strong support, which according to them was because of her wide-ranging proposed political and socio-economic reforms rooted in democratic principles and development.
The high-level delegations discussed a range of key issues, including continued progress and partnership on Mrs. Egbo’s political reforms agenda; justice sector and law enforcement reforms; labor rights; women’s economic security and empowerment, including preventing and responding to gender-based violence; human rights, including the rights of persons with disabilities; asset recovery; and combating corruption as well as trafficking in persons.
They lamented that continual leadership failure and corruption have been the contributory factors that culminated into poor developmental posture of the Constituency.
They said, unfortunately the Constituency’s developmental achievements still remain paltry and unsatisfactory, pointing out that, “we are plagued with poverty, unemployment, mortality rate, poor economic and infrastructural development, skyrocketing insecurity and high level of corrupt practices; we suffered all these due poor representation at the national assembly.
“We will vote Mrs Juliet Egbo come February 25 2023. We will be proud we did,
We will change the unjust status quo.
“She has demonstrated that empathy and insight are powerful leadership qualities,” the women posited.
“Mrs Juliet Egbo has been a fierce advocate for New Enugu, an inspiration to so many and a great friend to Enugu women,” they added.
Responding, Hon Mrs Juliet Egbo, House of Representatives member hopeful, said she is personally committed to supporting women in their endeavors beyond February 25 polls when he is elected.
Mrs Egbo who signalled her willingness to move into full time legislative business if elected, and appealed to the women to position themselves as change agents in life, business and politics..
She noted that States in Nigeria that had seen the election and representation of women at the highest political offices have seen unprecedented economic prosperity and developmental advancement.
She enumerated the undeniable importance of women to peace, security and socio-economic development.
“Our women have woken up and become entrepreneurs in the proper world. By increasing capital access from three per cent to 10 per cent to female initiatives and businesses, we can create improved development outcomes in Enugu South/Enugu North.
