A political pressure group known as Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) Grassroots Movement of Nigeria has explained has backed out of the nationwide protest slated to take place in various cities across the 36 States of Nigeria and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja from August 1 to August 10, 2024 saying that members of the Movement across the country are not going to participate in the protest.

Rising from an emergency national meeting held at their national headquarters in Abuja the group told newsmen that their decision to back out of the protest is inline with the position of their principal and former Governor of Abia State Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who is currently representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The convener and national leader of the group Alhaji Muritala Mohammed alias ten ten who spoke on behalf of the group told newsmen that Senator Kalu’s position on the planned protest is okay by the members hence their decision to back out of the protest. According to him the group held an emergency national meeting to look at the situation of things most particularly the planned nationwide protest and after much deliberation they adopted the position of their principal that the protest is not good for the country’s economy and so they are not going to be part of the protest.

While congratulating the good people of North West and Southeast for the new development, he expressed the hope that the new Commissions will serve as viable platforms to give effective response to the challenges of insecurity and economic hardship bedeviling the North West and Southeast geopolitical zones respectively calling on President Tinubu to ensure that credible people who are experienced enough are the ones to be appointed to head and manage the new Commissions
