POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS: SP DIMKA HONOURED N PLATEAU STATE

It’s no secret that 2021 was a challenging year in Nigeria for the police force nation-wide. The year shed light on just how strained relations are between police and the communities they serve as well as just how big the trust gap is. But the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has continued to widely identify that rebuilding trust was a top priority in the police, affirming the steep decline in community-police relations and the need to step up the values.

This is just one of many endeavors few of the Nigeria police officers have taken on, showing how they go above and beyond the call of duty, entrenching themselves in the fabric of community to make positive impacts.

One of such who have gone outside of their roles as police officers is SP Usman Ahmed Abdul Dimka, who, over the years, has established strong relationships of mutual trust with his people. That was why on 27th of December 2021, Kabwir District Traditional Council, in conjunction with the national body, Rong Development Association (RODA), came together coronate him as Nhik Chim Kabwir, by His Royal Highness Nde Dominic D Gofwen.

SP Dimka who was already installed as an Nde is also Nking Grip Rong (Garkuwa). His recent coronation was in recognition of his support to national cause, for his tireless work and contribution to his community projects through personal effort.

The coronation event which took place At Nefur Luwarang Bwir was a splendor of display of the rich cultural heritage of Plateau people.

There was wide jubilation and hospitality as some illustrious sons of the State were also honoured and conferred of chieftaincy titles. The event had the governor of Plateau State, His Excellncy, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong as special guest of honour; the Senator representing the Plateau Central Senatorial District, Nde Senator Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka as father of the day; President of the Police Officers Wives Association and wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Hajia Haraja Usman Baba and mother of the date and many other dignitaries.

Speaking at the occasion, His Royal Highness Nde Dominic D Gofwen, praised SP Dimka’s positive community-building even as he continued to respond to some of the hardest moments of his job as a Nigeria police officer. He thanked him for “the work he does to make our community a safer, better place. We cannot overlook the immeasurable sacrifices made by him”

Thanking His Royal Highness Nde Dominic D Gofwen, the Kabwir District Traditional Council, Rong Development Association (RODA) and the crowd gathered, SP Dimka said, “It felt unreal. I wasn’t expecting it at all but I’m glad I got it with all the hard work I’ve done. I was a bit surprised. I’m pleased.”
Continuing, he said, “It’s all been positive. I have been giving back to Nigeria my best. I have been helping other people get out of trouble, giving talks to young people and getting them off the wrong path and getting them onto the right path. I’m just enjoying my job.”

“I’m really humbled by my coronation and would like to thank the IGP Usman Alkali Baba, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ari Al, my mother, Hajia Haraja Usman Baba, who has also immensely empowered and continued to empower the police officers wives and widows nationwide; my father and mentor, Nde Senator Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka, my elder brother, a retired Custom Controller, Nde Victor David Dimka and my local community for all their help and support over the years. I felt truly humbled when I was told that I was receiving the coronation, particularly as I love doing what I do and the support I receive from my people really helps to make my job so much easier.”

“Again, my gratitude to Dsp. Dominic Tibbin Dimka who did his best to enroll me into the NPF ; my parents who nurtured me from infancy till I became who I’m today: my beloved and adorable wife , my children and all members of my family who are my strength and pillar that stands by me in prayers and in all ramifications. The officers and men of Delta State Police command , the NPF in general and my beloved country Nigeria, I grateful to you all”, he concluded.

His elder brother, Nde Victor David Dimka had this to say about SP Dimka, “It’s no surprise to me that Dimka is been recognised in this way. I have never before known police officer with such heart and drive to make change and lift the lives of others as he does.”
