Prince Harry’s Comments About King Charles’ Health Reportedly Sent Royal Family Into a Tailspin

Prince Harry’s interview with Good Morning America was sure to elicit a reaction especially since he broke his silence about King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis. The royal family had a reported reaction to the Duke of Sussex’s comments, and it just goes to show what he’s up against while trying to reconcile with his dad.

The truth is Harry really didn’t say that much in the Good Morning America interview about Charles. “Look, I love my family,” he said. “The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.” He spoke to his father by phone and “jumped on a plane” to offer support. “I went to go and see him as soon as I could,” Harry explained. He also shared his optimism that King Charles’ illness could have a “reunifying effect” on his family. When he was asked to share more information about Charles’ health, Harry honored the monarch’s privacy.

However, there are some royal sources who think Harry used Charles’ misfortune to his own advantage. “It seems Harry has taken it on himself to use the diagnosis to publicize his own agenda,” a pal of Charles and Queen Camilla told The Daily Beast. “If it wasn’t so sickening it would be funny. What really would have helped the family come together would have been if Harry had said he wouldn’t be taking questions about his father.” A second source added, “It’s hard to believe that Harry can keep finding ways to make things worse. He just needs to pipe down.”

That criticism seems unfair given the fact that Prince William mentioned Charles and wife Kate Middleton’s health issues in a speech at London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner on Feb. 7 — and he even made a joke about it. “I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you also for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all.” He then joked, “It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather ‘medical’ focus, so I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!”

King Charles has two sons and it’s understandable that they will be asked about their dad’s health by the press because they are public figures. Harry and William have both respected their father’s medical privacy in different ways, but the criticism is only aimed at one person for absolutely no reason at all.
