PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: The Resumed Impunity Of Violent And Unlawful Dispossession of Agidiasie People’s Ancestral Land Inheritance and Farmlands Under the Custodian of the Iyase Of Ogwashi-uku Kingdom By “HRH” Ifechkwude Okonjo

The Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, High Chief Mike Chukwuka Nwaukoni, Iyase-in-Council and the entire members of Agidiasei quarters and satellite communities wishes to draw attention of the government, the police and other security agencies and general public to the resumption of forceful and unlawful dispossession of Agidiasei people’s farmlands and properties by “HRM” Ifechukwude Okonjo, his accomplices and agents.

The Delta State Government had earlier followed due process by issuing a restraining order and subsequently constituted a Judicial Panel of Investigation in a concerted effort to put a check to the impunity and lawlessness of land grabbing, alienation, dealing, extortion, and displacement of rightful land owners in Ogwashi-Uku, its environs and neighbouring towns and communities by HRH Ifechukwude Okonjo.

The Panel has completed its assignment diligently with the submissions and evidence from invited stakeholders that overwhelmingly confirm and authenticate the commission of these illegal acts by “HRH”. Unfortunately, while all other stakeholders and the general public patiently await Delta Stare Government White Paper on the Judicial Investigation Panel, “HRH” Ifechukwude Okonjo, has resumed these illegal acts with intensified ferocity and unbridled impunity.

Of particular concern is the siege and terror being unleashed on Agidiasei people in a desperate attempt and Gestapo tactics by “HRH” Ifechukwude Okonjo to forcefully disposes them of their ancestral lands, homes and farmlands situated, being, and lying and/or located along Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, Azagba, Edo and Otulu axis. This is absolutely without the consent, concurrence and approval of the High Chief Mike Chukwuka Nwaukoni, the Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom and his Iyase-in-Council as the custodian of the ancestral land inheritance on behalf of Agidiase people.

The media including social and mainstream media has been inundated and awash with confirmed news and reports of HRM Ifechukwude Okonjo and his accomplices’ deployment and use of uniformed security men and armed thugs to harass, intimidate, attack, maim and forcefully disposes and takeover lands and properties in Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, its environs and neighbouring communities.

A thorough fact-finding investigation and mission by Iyasei-in-Council, and other members of Agidiasei Quarters of Ogwashi-Uku, confirms and documents verifiable evidence and several Agidiasei people that have been violently displaced from their ancestral land inheritance with the atrocious destruction and seizure of their farmlands, economic trees, farm produce by uniformed military men from neighbouring states to Delta State and armed thugs hired by “HRH” Ifechukwude Okonjo, his accomplices and agents.

This is a replication and reminiscence of the recent Aniagbala, Otulu, Ubulu-Okiti dastardly act and saga ordered and superintended by “HRM” Ifechukwude Okonjo. As attested by unrequited testimonies of peasant farmers and hapless residents during the sittings of the Judicial Panel of Investigation, some these victims have continued to face illegal police arrest and remand to prison custody orchestrated by “HRH” with connivance of compromised officials.

This systemic mayhem and crisis unleashed on law-abiding citizens is a time bomb waiting to explode and escalate into large scale violence and breakdown of law and order. This must be urgently and summarily addressed and nipped in the bid by Delta State Government, the Nigeria Police and other Security Agencies of the State and Federal Government to prevent this from happening.

By this public announcement, the Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, the Iyase-in-Council and entire Agidiasei people passionately appeal and request prompt and effective necessary actions by Delta State Government, the Nigeria Police and other relevant government agencies to:

1. Stop “HRM” Ifechukwude Okonjo, his accomplices and agents the resumption of unbridled impunity and unleash of intimidation and terror in our people for sole purpose of illegally dispossessing them of their lands, properties and farmlands.

2. Put all machinery and deployments in place to put an immediate end to wanton destruction of properties and escalating banditry, kidnappings and killing of innocent citizens in Ogwashi-Uku, its environs and neighbouring towns and communities that may not be unconnected with the impunity and destructive agenda and activities of “HRH” Ifechukwude Okonjo, his accomplices and agents.

3. Immediately commence a thorough criminal investigation of “HRH” Ifechukwude Okonjo, and diligent his prosecution as appropriate based on the indicting findings that the criminal investigation will most likely come up with.

A stitch in time saves nine.

Enough is Enough!
