On 3rd of May, 2024, being Friday ‘Afor’ in Igbo market day, the Mburubu Kingdom in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State will bid farewell to its beloved monarch, Her Royal Majesty Queen Josephine Nwakaego Ezeh, as she embarks on her final journey. Thousands of mourners, friends, and well-wishers are expected to attend the funeral, marking the end of an era for the Mburubu community.

The solemn departure of Queen Josephine’s body from the Eastern Medical Centre in Enugu signifies the beginning of a period of mourning for the Mburubu community. Pallbearers, carrying the queen’s coffin, will make a two-hour journey through the Nkanu lands before arriving at the Igwe Ozulumba Palace in Mburubu. There, the queen’s body will rest for a few hours, allowing close family and relatives to pay their tributes and respects.

Accompanied by the Prince of Mburubu Kingdom, Engr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, and other members of the Royal Family, Queen Josephine’s remains will then be taken to St. John Catholic Church Mburubu for public viewing and the funeral Mass. Following the Mass, her remains will be brought back to the palace for internment. A reception will be held at the Community Primary School Mburubu to host visiting guests.

Leading up to Queen Josephine’s burial, a wake-keep and night of tributes will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Igwe Ozulumba Palace in Umudara Mburubu.

Queen Josephine Nwakaego Ezeh, alongside her husband, Igwe E.M.O. Ezeh, left an indelible mark on the Mburubu community. Her loss is deeply felt by the people, as well as by the royal family themselves. As a first-class King’s wife, her essential spirit—strong, proud, hard-working, unimpressed with conventional marks of status, and full of common sense and good humor—never changed.

The Mburubu community will bid farewell to Queen Josephine with all the pomp and flourish it can muster, pouring forth thanks to a woman who epitomized humility, integrity, uprightness, diligence, patriotism, fidelity, and uncommon humaneness. She was greatly loved and cherished by her people.

Her Majesty’s aura of peace and tranquility, coupled with her exemplary leadership, held the community together after the demise of her husband, the King. Besides being a loving mother and extraordinary Queen, she was a great humanitarian in all spheres.

Queen Josephine Ezeh has come, she has seen, and she has indeed conquered. Her transition unquestionably marks the end of an era. She has walked her own path, inspiring a nation and the world along the way.

May God, the Creator, grant Queen Josephine Nwakaego Ezeh eternal rest while providing comfort to the family and sustaining the bond within the Mburubu Kingdom.

Fare thee well, quintuple quintessential Queen!
