Abuja, NIGERIA — In recognition of its outstanding programmes, the University of Port Harcourt has emerged in the index of world universities and few universities in Africa continent to receive full accreditation status from the Royal Society of Biology, London.

Disclosing this to Time Africa, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Georgewlll Owunari, said after submitting the University’s programs for assessment and rigorous processes, the Royal Society of Biology London awarded the UNIPORT full accreditation status, a rare feat by few numbered universities in Africa.

“We were engaged in several activities with the international accreditation body through visitations, meetings, conferences, review of submissions, resubmission of required data, information, legislations, policies etc. After a thorough review of all the submissions and further responses by the University of Port Harcourt, the Royal Society of Biology London has approved international accreditation to all the programs put up by the University for international accreditation,” he said.

He said, on April 20, 2023 the University was invited to receive the recognition of international accreditation certificates in London.

The letter conveying the award also explained the numerous benefits of the accreditation to the University, it’s staff and students.

He said the accreditation provides an assurance that students will graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a global market.

Time Africa reported that the accreditation by Royal Society of Biology, London, recognises excellence by identifying world universities’ degree programmes that offer an outstanding education in bioscience.

Institutions are required to undertake a rigorous assessment and meet a defined set of criteria, providing evidence that graduates meet learning outcomes including subject knowledge, technical ability and transferable skills.
