Anambra State leading aspirant for the 2025 governorship position on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has officially launched his campaign with a highly anticipated inauguration of his election Campaign Council.

The move comes amid growing discontent in some quarters with the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who is seeking re-election.

The campaign council, a 15-member team, was inaugurated over the weekend with a high-profile ceremony. Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, a notable figure with experience as a former House of Representatives member representing the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, has been appointed as the Director-General of the council. His political background and familiarity with the intricacies of legislative processes position him as a pivotal leader in this campaign.

Supporting Ibezi will be Chief Uzu Okagbue, who brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles as Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Willie Obiano. Okagbue will serve as the Deputy Director-General for the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone. This strategic placement of seasoned political operatives underscores Chukwuma’s commitment to assembling a team capable of navigating the complex political landscape of Anambra.

The Campaign Council’s composition reflects a blend of political veterans and experts across various sectors. Chief Raphael Okeke will serve as the Deputy Director-General for the Anambra North Zone, while Chief Jude Osude will oversee the Anambra South Senatorial Zone. Barrister C.J Chinwuba has been appointed as the Secretary of the Campaign Council, ensuring effective coordination and communication within the team.

Other notable members include Hon. Hillary Udeanu, who will handle security matters, Amb. Elijah Onyeagba as the Director of Finance, and Dr. Tony Onyima, responsible for Research and Documentation. Dr. Uche Nworah will manage Media and Communications, while Mr. James Eze has been designated as the Campaign Spokesperson. This diverse and experienced team is poised to tackle the myriad challenges facing the campaign and drive the message of change to the electorate.

During the inauguration, Sir Paul Chukwuma emphasized the gravity of the moment and the critical nature of the upcoming election. He called on the Campaign Council to dedicate themselves fully to the mission of securing his candidacy and, eventually, the governorship position. Chukwuma’s vision for Anambra is anchored on what he terms the ‘HIS’ Agenda, which stands for Human Capital Development, Infrastructural Development, and Security. These pillars reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the state’s pressing issues.

Chukwuma articulated a clear sense of urgency, stating, “My dear brothers and sisters, I want you to see your acceptance to serve in my campaign council as a call to serve Ndi Anambra. We are all familiar with the current situation in our dear state. Everyone is feeling the effects of insecurity and other challenges facing our people. The time to turn the corner is now, or else, we will wake up one day and we won’t have any state to return home to.” His message resonates with the electorate’s concerns, aiming to offer tangible solutions to the problems of insecurity and infrastructural decay.

The ‘HIS’ Agenda is designed to address these issues head-on. Human Capital Development focuses on improving educational outcomes, fostering skills development, and creating opportunities for youth. Infrastructural Development aims at revitalizing the state’s physical and economic infrastructure, enhancing transportation, healthcare, and public amenities. Security is a top priority, with plans to bolster law enforcement and community safety initiatives to restore peace and stability across the state.

Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, speaking on behalf of the Campaign Council, underscored the significance of Chukwuma’s candidacy. He described Chukwuma as a “special purpose vehicle” through which the people of Anambra can unite to effect change. Ibezi’s remarks highlight a sense of divine timing and destiny in Chukwuma’s bid, suggesting that his entry into the race represents a moment of potential redemption for the state.

The launch of Sir Paul Chukwuma’s campaign for the governorship of Anambra State marks the beginning of a highly charged and competitive electoral season. With a well-structured campaign council and a clear agenda focused on addressing key issues facing the state, Chukwuma is positioning himself as a transformative leader capable of steering Anambra towards a more prosperous and secure future.
