Tinubu’s Minister, Uche Nnaji Faces Fire Over Alleged Non-Performance In Science, Technology Sector Amid Defection Plan

President Bola Tinubu’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has come under scrutiny for allegedly failing to improve the ministries under him, but rather focusing on 2027 politics.

According to Chukwuka Eneh, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Nnaji is in an alleged secret plot to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Eneh, the minister held a meeting with opposition figures in Akpugo, Nnaji’s hometown, during the burial of football legend, Christian Chukwu, in Enugu State.

Eneh noted that Nnaji’s possible secret defection has raised questions about his ability to focus on his ministerial responsibilities.

The PDP chieftain, Eneh, said, “For a man still occupying a ministerial seat in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, this defection signals not just frustration but outright despair.

“Nnaji’s ministry has been hyperactive in issuing press releases, reeling off supposed achievements like securing billions in foreign investment, launching satellites, promising AI-driven hospitals, and training thousands of young Nigerians. His aides present these claims as proof that he is “delivering results.”

“Yet, for many Nigerians, they remain little more than hollow boasts, grand figures that rarely translate into tangible impact or verifiable progress. Outside the glossy statements, there is little to show on the ground.

“The emptiness of these claims is especially clear when set against the legacy of his predecessor, the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. Onu’s tenure as Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation was defined by visible initiatives such as the Made in Nigeria policy that boosted local content, the promotion of methanol fuel technology, concrete steps toward local vaccine production, launch of Techexpo, an annual exhibition that brought together innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs to showcase their inventions and network with potential investors.

“These were programmes citizens and experts could point to and evaluate. In comparison, Nnaji’s record is dominated by noise without substance.”

The PDP chieftain also scolded Nnaji over what he described as “political misadventures” saying the minister’s 2023 governorship bid ended in “humiliation.”

“Nnaji has no electoral base, no charisma to rally voters. His sole asset remains the ministerial seat, a gift from Tinubu, courtesy of Imo Governor, Uzodimma, now widely seen as excessive compensation for his miserly votes for Tinubu in 2023. Uche Nnaji’s saga is a case study in political incompetence,” Eneh added.
