US president issues warning after ordering military strikes on Isis terrorists in Somalia who ‘threatened the United States and our allies’

Donald Trump has warned enemies of America that “we will find you, and we will kill you” after ordering air strikes on senior Islamic State members in Somalia.

In a statement released on social media, Mr Trump said: “This morning I ordered precision military air strikes on the senior Isis attack planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia.”

He did not name the individuals targeted but added: “These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.”

Taking a swipe at his presidential predecessor, Mr Trump said: “Our military has targeted this Isis attack planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did!”

He finished the statement: “The message to Isis and all others who would attack Americans is that ‘we will find you and we will kill you!’”

It appeared to be a reference to Taken, a 2008 film in which Liam Neeson’s character Bryan Mills threatens an Albanian gang leader who has kidnapped his daughter by saying: “I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”

Trump’s strikes on Isis represent a continuation of Joe Biden’s policy.

The US carried out precision air strikes against Isis targets in Syria in December amid concerns that the terror group would regroup in the “vacuum” created by the fall of Bashar al-Assad.

Mr Biden said the US had struck targets after learning that Damascus had been overtaken by rebel groups. The US military will continue to operate in the region to quell the threat of IS.

“We’re clear-eyed about the fact that Isis will try to take advantage of any vacuum to re-establish its capabilities to create a safe haven,” said Mr Biden. “We will not let that happen.

Those strikes were conducted by B-52 bombers, F-15 fighter jets and A-10 ground attack aircraft, and hit Isis leaders, operatives and camps, CNN reported.
