TUC Delta State council elects new leaders to help chart a hopeful future for workers

5th Triennial Delta State TUC Delegates’ Conference, a constitutional convention of the Trade Union Congress, today elected officers to lead the organization until 2025.

The TUC is one of the Nigeria’s major umbrella organization of national unions, local labour councils and represents over three million workers.

The delegates re-elected Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu as State Chairman; Comrade Yekovie Obokomena Emmanuel, Vice Chairman; Comrade Oyegbanren Ete Omatsone, Secretary; Comrade Okoh Kenneth Chukwudi, Assist Secretary; Comrade Abel Egbiniyokor, Treasurer; Comrade Jude Igboamaka, Financial Secretary; Comrade Sunny Obozua, Auditor and Comrade Dumebi Eluaka, PRO.

Comrade Bolum who was returned unapposed received overwhelming support from convention delegates, was previously a major negotiator of Delta State pensons and minimum wages for workers with the State Government.

“We have to consider that economic policy should be working for workers, and not just for a few corporations in this country,” said Bolum after being elected.

“I am honored to be elected as TUC’s new Chairman and I’m looking forward to working with a dedicated team committed to advancing the interests of the nation’s workers and their families,” Bolum said

“We are committed to building a Delta State that works for everyone. Among our key priorities will be to ensure workers are centered in the administration of this government and future governments.

Bolum said together, they share a commitment to building a world that is fair for civil servant.

“We all have paths which are woven with common threads—hard work, solidarity, vision and courage.

As a team, we are focused on breaking new ground on everything from workers organizing to collective bargaining, political action to labour rights. We are in every way, unified to help members have a better life.

He assured that the new executive will continue with the tradition of being labour leaders by working tirelessly for the rights of workers and by advancing social and economic justice causes.

The commended Comrade Festus Osifo for steering the affairs of the Union in the right direction.

Election was conducted by National Secretary-General of the TUC, Comrade Toro.
