TUC South South zone gets new exco, Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu now Chairman

The South South zone of the Trade Union Congress TUC, have inaugurated a six man executive that will pilot the affairs of the union at the zonal level in the next three years.

Comrade Bolum Martin JP is now the new zonal chairman of the Union while Comrade Dominic Abang from Akwa-Ibom State is vice chairman, while Comrade Laye Julius from Bayelsa will serve as secretary.

The new executive were inaugurated in Yenagoa, Beyelsa State on Friday.

Addressing newsmen the chairman, Comrade Bolum Martin JP, said the essence of having TUC South South zone was to assist the National in handling issues concerning the body as well as having effective representation in TUC at the national level.

Comrade Bolum noted that the election of executive was done in line with the principle of justice, equity and fairness in carrying every block along, stating he would act on the functions of the committee.

The Delta State TUC boss, emphasized on the need for unity amongst members in order to have a solid representation at the national level,even at the negotiating table with government.

He explained that the South South zone has three blocks, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers State and Cross River, Akwa Ibom block, pointing out that every block is fully represented in the six offices within the zone with a one term agreement.

Secretary of the body and Chairman TUC, Bayelsa State Council Comrade Laye Julius noted that the zone’s target at the moment is for the South South region to have a common voice at the National level.

He asserted that the need to elect a substantive executive has become imperative, noting that the gesture by TUC South South is a demonstration of hope for workers in the region.

Comrade Julius commended the Bayelsa State government, security agencies for providing the enabling environment for business and national event to be hosted in the State having earlier hosted the chairmen and secretaries of Association of Senior Civil Servants from the region.

He equally appreciated the state government for giving priority to the welfare of civil servants in the Bayelsa and also their proactiveness in resolving workers related issues.

The posts of Assistant Secretary was zoned to Edo, the Public Relations Officer to Cross River, and Treasurer to Rivers State.
