Asaba, Delta State – In a significant development aimed at improving regulation within Delta State’s transport sector, Chief Ambr Uchenna Okafor, the Delta State Director-General in charge of Monitoring and Enforcement of Compliance of Laws, has been officially appointed to lead the Joint State Monitoring and Taskforce Committee of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA).

The appointment was formally conveyed through a letter of introduction signed by COMTOA Chairman, Chief Godday Obi Nzete, and addressed to the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure. According to the letter, Chief Okafor will oversee the operations of the committee responsible for ensuring that all motorcycle and tricycle operators in Delta State comply with transport regulations and government policies. The committee’s establishment marks a renewed effort by the Delta State Government and COMTOA to bring sanity, safety, and accountability to the commercial transport system across all Local Government Areas of the state.

The Joint State Monitoring/Taskforce Committee has been mandated with several key responsibilities, including enforcement of compliance with daily ticket (road tax) payments by all operators, verification of the genuineness of tickets, inspection of ticket coding and registration for uniformity and proper record-keeping, verification of colour codes associated with registered commercial motorcycles and tricycles, monitoring of all COMTOA stations to ensure smooth and lawful operations, apprehension of operators driving against traffic (one-way offenders), and continuous oversight of traffic compliance and enforcement of safe driving practices.

These measures, according to COMTOA leadership, are designed to enhance road discipline, ensure fair revenue collection, and promote orderliness among transport operators in Delta State.

During a brief reception ceremony at the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba, Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, received Chief Ambassador Uchenna Okafor and members of the newly formed taskforce. In his remarks, Hon. Agofure commended COMTOA for taking a proactive step toward improving transport operations in the state. He praised Chief Okafor’s appointment, describing him as a man of integrity, vision, and proven administrative capability.

He further charged the committee to carry out its duties with diligence and respect for the law, emphasizing that the era of lawlessness on Delta roads must end. “We must ensure that our transport system reflects order, discipline, and accountability,” he stated.

Chief Godday Obi Nzete, while presenting the committee to the Commissioner, solicited the ministry’s full support and cooperation, stating that the success of the taskforce depends on collaboration between government agencies, security operatives, and transport unions.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Ambassador Uehenna Okafor expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him, promising to uphold the confidence placed in his leadership. He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, teamwork, and strict adherence to state laws.

The Joint State Monitoring/Taskforce Committee will operate across all Local Government Areas in Delta State, ensuring that no operator or zone is left unchecked. The Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Transport, reiterated its commitment to fostering a sustainable and orderly transport system that ensures both compliance and public safety.

With Chief Ambassador Uchenna Okafor at the helm, Delta State looks forward to a new era of discipline, efficiency, and fairness within the commercial motorcycle and tricycle sector.
