Abuja, NIGERIA — Ambassador Chief Uchenna Okafor (UN Peace Ambr), the Director General of the Taskforce and Monitoring of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA) in Delta State, Nigeria. has been awarded the prestigious African Icons and Heroes Award in the Community Development Category.

In a momentous ceremony held on June 1, 2025, by the African Peace and Community Development Centre, Lusaka, Zambia, Chief Uchenna Okafor was described as “a visionary leader whose dedication to community development and service has set benchmarks for excellence in the African transportation sector.”

The African Peace and Community Development Centre highlighted his relentless advocacy for the rights of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, noting his innovative strategies that have uplifted the livelihoods of many within Delta State.

The group emphasized Chief Okafor’s remarkable capacity to engage and mobilize communities, creating a sense of empowerment among operators by providing them with training in key areas such as road safety, financial literacy, and responsible driving.
