Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger arrived in Kigali on Sunday night , March 12, to attend the much-anticipated 73rd FIFA Congress slated for March 16.

Wenger, who currently serves as the world football body (FIFA) Chief of Global Football Development, is one of many delegates expected at the high-level meeting which will be chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

He arrived at Kigali International Airport alongside FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samoura.

Wenger, who coached Arsenal from 1996 to 2018, had previously been in Kigali during the CAF Executive Committee meeting in 2021.

The most awaited item on the agenda of the FIFA Congress in Kigali is the elections of the FIFA president who will be taking office during the next four years. Incumbent Infantino will stand for a third-term unchallenged during the elections.

A candidate is eligible for three terms and, if elected, Infantino will be serving his last term in office.

The development means the Swiss-Italian is on course to preside over at least three World Cups, with his upcoming third-term set to go beyond the 2026 edition, which will be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
