Wike’s govt left N225.279b debt for me — Fubara

The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has said his administration inherited 34 uncompleted projects valued at over N225.279 billion across 13 local government areas.

Additionally, his government has awarded nine new road projects worth N534.332 billion.

While presenting an account of his administration’s first-year achievements at Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, Fubara discussed the severe political crisis his government faced shortly after taking office on May 29, 2023.

Though, despite these challenges, he assured that the worst is over, and his administration remains committed to advancing the state’s progress.

“We started this journey with a bang,” Governor Fubara remarked. “We were focused and determined to make the promised changes urgently. However, we encountered a vicious political crisis just three months in. Thankfully, we have overcome it and will continue to prevail in governing our state with freedom.”

Speaking further, he highlighted important changes in the political landscape since overcoming the crisis and reiterated his commitment to putting Rivers State first, ensuring good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

Also, reflecting on his administration’s core priorities—economic growth, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture—Mr Fubara expressed pride in the significant achievements made despite unprecedented challenges.

He noted the economy’s improvement under his leadership, which had been on a declining trajectory.

To bolster the state’s economy, Fubara established an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)/Investment Advisory Committee, which he chairs. This committee aims to reduce reliance on federal allocations by attracting investments and increasing internally generated revenue.

“We needed to attract investments and increase our revenue base to realize our development goals,” he explained. “Our liberalized, business-friendly policies are boosting confidence and attracting both local and international investors, as seen by the monthly expressions of interest we receive.”

The governor Fubara concluded by stressing his administration’s commitment to accountability, responsiveness, and responsibility for the security and well-being of Rivers State’s citizens.
