As an advocate of change, Egbo made a significant impact in both Nigeria and the United States. He was the author of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority under Governor Sullivan Chime’s Administration. He became the first commissioner of the Authority, in addition to Transport and later Environment.
“Enugu ha abu obodo oyibo” mantra became synonymous with the offices he held, which helped transform the Coal City from a modern suburb to a European city. The former commissioner ensured that taxicabs were GPS tracked, waste disposal was excellent, and security cameras were installed to fight crime.

He ended parking of vehicles on dual carriage ways with excellent road traffic flow and enforcement, and planted trees on dual carriage roads to fight ozone layer depletion. Egbo, as Commissioner for Environment, was instrumental in saving the Okpara Square Forest, which had been allocated to an agency for building. Today, the forest remains a landmark and home to the Unity Park.

The street name signages and directional road signs in the Coal city, which were picked up by Google Maps, were some of his legacies as a commissioner. Others include new luxury buses that eased conveyance for citizens, which was free for students, and the Big Ben clock at the old Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly in the Secretariat, which was repaired and chiming aloud.

Security in the city was top-notch, and Egbo relocated the Mayor Market to Idaw River layout off Emeka Ebila street, which had now returned to Agbani road and posed a danger to human traffic. These developments were instrumental in Rockefeller Foundation listing Enugu as one of the world’s “100 resilient cities”.

Egbo’s leadership credentials were more evident in diaspora, where he retired as a Deputy Sheriff and served as the President of Enugu USA. He founded the Enugu USA Medical Mission Programme, which has continued to treat people in Enugu State since 2002.

His dedication to enriching the lives of others is evident in his various roles, as he has consistently demonstrated excellence and served as a model for others to follow. Egbo’s achievements and accomplishments are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Kudos to Dr. Egbo for his tireless efforts in promoting the welfare of Enugu State and its people, and thank you for your contributions to seeing the positive impact of this project.

Once again, congratulations on your outstanding keynote address, which is synonymous with the Igbo adage “Aku Ruo Uno”.
